The In-Demand Jobs project was undertaken by Workforce WindsorEssex with the goal of promoting in-demand jobs to the community with the long-term goal of building an employer-led talent pipeline. The centre piece of this project is the WEexplore tool. It is a first-of-its-kind online labour market tool that makes the process of exploring in-demand careers easier than ever. WEexplore simplifies the task of finding, researching and applying for in-demand jobs in an easy to use tool that helps the user better visualize potential career paths. It was developed by Workforce WindsorEssex following the research of locally, in-demand jobs and the creation of detailed career profiles.

Unlike any other job search tool, WEexplore simplifies the task of researching information about in-demand jobs. It presents detailed career profile information such as job overview, wages, skills, and more in a way that allows users to visualize what jobs might lead into and out of the region’s top in-demand jobs. Furthermore, to help people take the next step in their career, the tool automatically populates a list of local job postings on a daily basis.
Users will be able to customize the information displayed by showing all jobs or selecting a specific sector. They can also enlarge or shrink the size of the job circles to visually display the salary or number of available job postings.
In April 2018, WEexplore featured about 150 jobs. The jobs were chosen because they were either in-demand or lead into or out of the region’s in-demand jobs. As of August 2018, WEexplore now features over 200 occupations, highlighting over 120 in demand occupations.

Workforce WindsorEssex developed a list of locally in-demand jobs using a variety of research methods including online job postings, employer surveys and consultations, news stories and stakeholder feedback from the Workforce Summit event in May 2017. Since its initial launch in summer 2017, Workforce WindsorEssex continues to update the list year-round, ensuring it reflects local demand.
