WE LIP Success Story | June 2023
The WE LIP Settlement Partners Information Communication Exchange (SPICE) Committee has been meeting regularly since the winter of 2013. The meetings provide valuable opportunities for representatives from local Newcomer Service Providers, City of Windsor Employment and Social Services, Housing and Children’s Services departments to exchange information, learn about each other’s operational models and problem solve challenges experienced while serving their mutual clients. The committee planned its ninth Professional Learning Circle (PLC) which took place on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM with over 54 participants.
The one hour virtual learning circle provided an opportunity for front line staff to learn about the summer recreational programming available in Windsor-Essex for clients they work with. Charmaine Valbuena, Coordinator of Social Planning at the City of Windsor presented valuable information about the 90% Pathway to Potential (P2P) Discount toward recreation, culture, and arts programming available for eligible families living with low-income in the City of Windsor and County of Essex. Attendees also received information through the 2023 Windsor-Essex Summer Programs Guide for IRCC Funded Service Provider Organizations which was distributed following the event. Brian Weinberg-Kessler, Chair of the SPICE Committee and Employment and Social Services Supervisor at the City of Windsor facilitated the session. To ensure that the information presented was of value to participants, SPICE Committee members submitted suggested topics which were selected by order of interest. Participants were provided an opportunity to ask and submit related questions during the event through the available chat option.
