WE LIP Success Story | July 2022

On May 13, 2022, the Windsor Essex Local Immigration Partnership (WE LIP) joined the team at the Center Communautaire Francophone Windsor Essex-Kent (CCFWEK), and partners to celebrate the official opening of the Carrefour Communautaire Francophone (also called “Le Carrefour”).

As detailed on their website, Le Carrefour is a space that offers a variety of multidisciplinary and integrated services for Francophones and Francophiles to gather and exchange. Officially established in December 2020 at 720 Ouellette Avenue, Le Carrefour aims to bring together at a single site the maximum number of community resources and services in French.

Le Carrefour aspires to achieve the following objectives:

  • To implement social, cultural, sporting, economic and/or spiritual activities.
  • To build a bridge between Francophones and other linguistic communities.
  • To normalize and encourage cooperation and consultation between the various Francophone organizations.
  • To affirm and defend Franco-Ontarian pride.

To mark World Refugee Day (June 20th), Le Comité Local en Immigration Francophone (CLIF) organized a gathering of organizations and agencies that offer services to Francophone refugees, in order to raise awareness of World Refugee Day. This was as an opportunity to salute the strength and courage of those who have been forced to flee their countries of origin to escape conflict or persecution.

This year, the meeting took place on June 17th, 2022 in the parking lot of Le Carrefour. Organizations in attendance included Association des communautés francophones de l’Ontario Windsor-Essex-Chatham-Kent (ACFO WECK), Center communautaire francophone de Windsor-Essex-Kent, Conseil scolaire catholique Providence, Conseil scolaire Viamonde, Center d’orientation pour adolescents, Association des Congolais du Sud-Ouest, Entité 1, the YMCA of Southwestern Ontario, the Multicultural Council of Windsor and WE LIP.
