CPA Information Sessions
June 26, 2018
On June 26, 2018, Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) Ontario, Women’s Enterprise Skills Training of Windsor Inc. and Windsor Essex Local Immigration Partnership collaborated to offer 2 CPA information sessions. Hosted at the WEST office, 23 IRCC funded service provider staff and 36 newcomers gained valuable information about the CPA designation pathways.
The agenda for the 2 sessions included:
- Local CPA labour market information and a live demonstration of the WEexplore tool provided by Workforce WindsorEssex;
- An overview of the CPA certification program, practical experience requirements, the benefits of pursuing the CPA designation, and steps to get started presented by Carmen Jacques, CPA Ontario; and
- A success story shared by Helena Palma-Kurek, Plant Accountant, about her experience in obtaining her CPA designation.
Citizenship Ceremony
July 1, 2018
In what has now become an annual event, the Canadian Citizenship Ceremony took place on July 1st at the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre. For the fourth year, the Windsor Essex Local Immigration Partnership, in collaboration with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada and the City of Windsor were pleased to organize the event in which 42 candidates, representing 11 different countries, were sworn in by Presiding Official, Rob Bruce, Manager of Windsor IRCC.
Dignitaries in attendance included City of Windsor Councillor, Ed Sleiman; Windsor West MPP, Lisa Gretzky; Essex MP, Tracey Ramsey; Windsor West MP, Brian Masse; and Windsor Police Diversity Officer, Constable Neil McEachrane.
As our newest citizens stood to take their oath and sing O Canada, some wearing Canada tee shirts, the smiles on their faces denoted the pride they felt as their sacrifice and hard work culminated to this moment when they could say, “I am Canadian.”
Oath of Citizenship
I swear (or affirm)
That I will be faithful
And bear true allegiance
To Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second Queen of Canada
Her Heirs and Successors
And that I will faithfully observe
The laws of Canada
And fulfil my duties
As a Canadian citizen.
