On Sunday, September 24th, 2023, the TeaMWork Project attended Legal Assistance of Windsor’s information session titled “Sexual Harassment in the Workplace and the Connection with Precarious Immigration Status.”

Gathering at St John’s Anglican Church in Leamington at 5pm, the night started with food and beverages for all and a social hour, with the actual information session presentation beginning at 6pm. The info session focused on some of the nuances of a closed work permit when it comes to sexual harassment at work, and the rights that Migrant Workers are protected under in Canada. Some of the key messaging to workers being: “You have the right to work in a harassment-free workplace,” and “You have the right to not feel intimidated or feel uncomfortable.”

The event was a success, drawing good attendance and providing a comfortable and approachable environment for Migrant Workers to learn more about this important topic and discuss their personal situation or experiences with a professional who can provide legal advice and facilitate further service navigation if the need arises.
