With Windsor’s unemployment rate at a high of 8.3% for both January and February 2020 according to Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey, we’re taking a look at the top five in-demand occupations in the region for February 2020.

The top five in-demand occupations for February 2020 were identified as: Retail Salesperson with 253 job postings published in the Windsor-Essex region; Home Support Workers, Housekeepers and Related Occupations with 121 job postings; Nursery and Greenhouse Workers with 114 job postings; Other Customer and Information Service Representatives with 113 job postings; and Transport Truck Drivers with 108 job postings.

The above occupations have been identified as typically requiring a NOC Skill Level C, meaning employers are looking for individuals with a secondary education or occupation-specific education.

In terms of searches on the Job Board, users were down 16.2% from 10,908 users in January 2020 to 7,861 users in February 2020.

Interest by Job Type for those searching the Job Board was split, with 51.3% of interactions searching for part time work, 42.4% looking for full time work, and 6.3% looking at all job types.

Additionally, the majority of interactions (64.4%) were searching for Permanent work, while 16.7% searched for temporary work and 8.6% searched for contract work. Those searching all job durations accounted for 10.4% of interactions.
