The Workforce WindsorEssex team was invited to participate in St. Clair College’s Amazing Skills Challenge this past June 11th – June 14th where over 600 students would attend each day. The Workforce WindsorEssex team was tasked to create a station in which grade sevens and grade eights could complete.

The station’s goal was to bring awareness to the grade sevens and eights in Windsor-Essex County to the promising occupations in the labour market so that they could make informed decisions regarding future career choices. Students were formed into groups of two and three and were asked to match job titles to appropriate job descriptions for this activity.

Over 600 students traveled across St. Clair College campus to complete a variety of “challenges” such as this one in order to be considered for the top three monetary prizes of $250, $150, and $50 respectively. Students would be entered in this draw by collecting the most stamps from each station’s completed challenges in the allocated time of 2 hours.

As students were timed at each task with hopes of completing it in approximately three to four minutes, students all across Windsor-Essex County never ceased to amaze the Workforce WindsorEssex team. Witnessing these grade sevens and eights complete the Workforce WindsorEssex’s station really shed light on the different strengths of students completing the challenge.

The students were able to display the core competencies and transferable skills that employers would look for in an interview, including but not certainly limited to: oral and written communication skills, time management, leadership, teamwork, and attention to detail.
