While Health Care and Social Assistance, which was the top hiring sector in Windsor-Essex in January, is still very high on the list of top hiring sectors, it is interesting that Retail Trade has fallen to fourth. Retail Trade is typically first or second after Administrative and Support, Waste Management and Remediation Services, which includes employment agencies. Also of note is that Manufacturing is higher on this list than usual.

Job postings in the Manufacturing sector increased 8.9% from 674 total active job postings in January to 734 total active job postings in February. This is 2.8% below 755 total active job postings in February 2022 and 86.3% above 394 total active job postings in February 2021. This increase may be due to various manufacturing facilities ramping up production after the holiday season. Looking at the above graph, the sector generally sees an increase after December each year.

Additionally, job postings in the Retail Trade sector have been steadily decreasing since September 2022. While it has fallen only 2.5% from 678 total active job postings in January to 661 total active job postings in February, it is down 39.5% from 1,093 total active job postings in September 2022. This is also 4.5% lower than 692 total active job postings in February 2022, but 77.7% higher than 372 total active job postings in February 2021. With the busier holiday season long behind us, it is not unusual to see these numbers fall and they are still 38.3% above the pre-pandemic February 2020 number of 478 total active job postings.

Job postings in Health Care and Social Assistance were down 4.8% from 788 total active job postings in January to 750 total active job postings in February. This is up 32.3% from 567 total active job postings in February 2022 and up 150.8% from 299 total active job postings in February 2021.
