Workforce WindsorEssex is currently recruiting new directors to serve on its Board. Directors are elected for a three-year term that starts on the date of the organization’s AGM (June 2024) and is renewable for one additional term.

About Workforce WindsorEssex

Workforce WindsorEssex is a workforce and community development board whose mission is to lead regional employment and community planning for the development of a strong and sustainable workforce.

We are an experienced leader in the development of place-based tools, research, guides, and events that create positive change in the local labour market. These resources, created in close coordination with employment, education and industry partners, are designed to help job seekers, employers, students & educators, as well as the community, make more informed labour market decisions using locally-responsive, data-rich and unbiased resources.

Our Ideal Board Member in 2024

The board completed a competency-based review of its existing board members. Although all individuals are welcome to apply; it was determined that recruiting new board members with the following competencies would further strengthen the board’s ability to govern the organization:

  • Strategic Leadership
  • Governance/Board
  • Business Accumen

Time Commitment

Although officers of the Board have a higher time requirement, a director’s time commitment is approximately 3 to 5 hours per month consisting of:

  • 10 board meetings per year, lasting about two hours in duration each;
    • Meetings are currently conducted in the early evening; virtually and in-person
  • Approximately 30 minutes of preparatory work in advance of each meeting to review the board package and liaise with other board members and staff as required;
  •  Board members sit on at least one of three Board committees:
    • Board committees: Executive, Governance, Finance & Audit
    • Committees meet virtually over the lunch hour for one hour each month
    • Potential involvement in special projects; and
  • Attending approximately 2-3 special events per year during working hours;

Directors are all volunteers and do not receive any remuneration or expense reimbursement for their participation. Besides the benefit of doing good work, gaining Board experience, and being a leader in the community, directorships are always great additions to any resume.
