W.E. Are Globally Connected: An Examination of Transportation, Distribution, Logistics and Warehousing
Workforce WindsorEssex is pleased to announce the release of W.E. Are Globally Connected: An Examination of Transportation, Distribution, Logistics and Warehousing. This year-long research project funded through generous support by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities examines the Transportation, Distribution, Logistics and Warehousing (TDLW) sectors.
This project explores each sector in TDLW and the opportunities for growth locally. TDLW can be broken down further to include five subsectors which are the main components in the movement of goods. They include air, marine, rail, road and warehousing. A favourable geographic location positions Windsor-Essex strategically to take advantage and become more involved as the TDLW and related industries grow and become further developed.
Furthermore, with the development of key infrastructure (ie. Herb Gray Parkway), Windsor-Essex is preparing and expanding the potential for the efficient movement of goods as plans are made to build the Detroit River International Crossing (DRIC)/New International Trade Crossing (NITC). Through employer interviews and consultations, there is consensus in TDLW that these infrastructure projects will bring further growth to the industry. To meet these demands, it is important to learn what skills are necessary to be successful in the industry, as well as some of the occupations employers predict as being important going forward.
