Our LEPC 3 Kickoff Meeting

On Wednesday October 24th, we held our Kickoff Meeting for the third phase of our Local Employment Planning Council project at the Accelerator. Our Central Planning Table and Intergovernmental, Service Provision and Employer Engagement Working Groups gathered to hear about progress on our newest initiatives and to strategize on how they can actively participate in helping to advance and complete our 5 new projects by the end of March 2019. WE LIP Success Story:

The Windsor Essex Local Immigration Partnership team creates monthly success stories which highlight the work being done in our community in support of newcomers. The newsletter is shared with over 100+ community partners and features the latest collection of success stories. October’s newsletter featured the Windsor- Essex Immigration website. The Windsor-Essex Immigration website was created in 2014 as a source of information where new and prospective immigrants to Windsor-Essex can learn more about the region.
Visitors to the site can find information on a range of topics including:
  •        Pre-arrival
  •        Healthcare
  •        Education
  •        Employment
  •        Settlement services & language training
  •        Community supports
  •        Housing
  •        Recreation
  •        Francophone communities
  •        Immigration statistics
  •        Weather

Tech Week- Tech Talent Day

We were proud to power Tech Talent Day, on October 31st,  the third day of Tech Week hosted by WEtech Alliance.
Tech Talent Day was about building, growing and recognizing our tech talent pipeline including highlighting local tech employees and employers. The day also featured additional community workshops and information sessions addressing the “tech talent” theme.
Over 230 students were in attendance and were able to learn more about our ICT resources. You too can learn more about these resources here!

Emerging Technologies Conference and Trade Show

We were so glad to be a part of the Emerging Technologies in Automation Conference & Trade Show hosted by the WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation, on November 6th, at Caesars Windsor.  At the event we got to hear from industry experts focused on innovative and emerging technologies.

Build A Dream

On November 8th at the Ciociaro Club, Workforce WindsorEssex was proud to participate in, and sponsor, Build A Dream Windsor 2018.
Build A Dream hosted its 5th event featuring
Sherry Holmes as the keynote speaker. Over 600 students and parents attended to experience engaging speakers, inspiring women, great food and interactive activities. Founded in 2014, Build A Dream is designed to attract, encourage and empower female students to pursue careers in skilled trades, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), emergency response and entrepreneurship. 

Monthly Job Demand Report: October 2018

We released the Job Demand Report for last month, examining 2,762 job postings from 8 local municipalities:

  • The most in-demand technical skill is Microsoft Office
  • The top two industries hiring in October: Hospitality/Services and Sales/Business Development 
  • 93% of all jobs posted were for permanent positions

October 2018 Labour Force Survey Release:

We released monthly information gathered from our Labour Force Survey and Statistics Canada about the local labour force:

  • The unemployment rate decreased by 0.4% to 6.9% in October
  • The participation rate decreased by 0.2% to 59.5% last month

In Case You Missed It… 

  • The WindsorEssex Community Foundation’s Random Act of Kindness Day was on November 2nd. RAK day is an annual community building initiative meant to encourage individuals, groups, businesses and organizations to engage in small acts of kindness and generosity. Our office participated by Donating Food to Windsor Homes Coalition Inc. & Kids First Food Bank and by Donating Blood at Canadian Blood Services Windsor
  • WE ProsperUS is proud to launch a unique engagement opportunity.  Community Consultations began last week across with Windsor-Essex County. Volunteer street teams will be stationed across the area, gathering the public’s views on how to better support children in our community.   • This month, our Workforce Wednesday Blog Posts highlighted the In-Demand Jobs in Windsor-Essex by interviewing an industrial/residential painter, an account representative, and a contractor/supervisor
