The Youth Matrix is a collection of resources and supports available to young people up to age 30 in Windsor-Essex.

Description: The Compass Program provides a classroom environment for up to twelve youth facing expulsion or at risk of expulsion from public or Catholic schools. It is a collaborative partnership between the Greater Essex County District School Board and New Beginnings, offering individualized plans and support to help students successfully complete the program and transition back to school.

New Beginnings – (NRAC) Non-Residential Attendance Centre

Description: The Youth Criminal Justice Act offers a non-custodial sentencing option for youth aged 12-17 who have engaged in delinquent behavior. The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board (WECDSB) provides referrals for mental health counseling. Various therapeutic programs are available, including interventions focused on relationships, communication, anger management, domestic violence, trauma, substance abuse, art therapy, girls’ group, pro-social skills, life skills, job readiness, literacy and tutoring, victim awareness, and embracing differences.

New Beginnings – Transitions

Description: Transitions is a specialized classroom program for 18 youth on probation, offered in partnership with the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, The Greater Essex County District School Board, and New Beginnings. It provides therapeutic supports, credit-earning opportunities, co-op placements, and additional education options. Referrals, progress review, and discharge planning are conducted by a Selections Committee, and referrals from the Children’s Aid Society are also accepted.

New Beginnings – Connections Program

Description: The Homework/Tutoring Program offers one-on-one support to approximately 40 students each year. Tutors, including retired teachers, professionals, and students, help enhance academic performance and boost self-confidence. Students have access to iPads and a smart board tracks their progress.
