The Tamarack Institute provided an Asset-Based Community Development seminar to the WE Value Team, YMCA project staff and the newly appointed Steering & Evaluation Committee.
This workshop provided an opportunity for participants to learn more about the theory behind Asset-Based Community Development , examples of where this approach has been successful, and opportunities to apply this approach to the work of newcomer settlement.
Asset Based Community Development (ABCD)
“An approach to sustainable community-driven development. Beyond the mobilisation of a particular community, it is concerned with how to link micro-assets to the macro-environment. Asset Based Community Development’s premise is that communities can drive the development process themselves by identifying and mobilizing existing, but often unrecognised assets. Thereby responding to challenges and creating local social improvement and economic development.”
