In an effort to ensure that the Steering & Evaluation Committee had a broad sense of immigration and migration trends in the province, we invited Dr. Mike Moffatt to speak to the committee.

Mike Moffatt is the Senior Director at the Smart Prosperity Institute and an Assistant Professor in the Business, Economics, and Public Policy group at Ivey Business School, Western University. In 2017, he was the Chief Innovation Fellow for the Government of Canada, advising Deputy Ministers on innovation policy and emerging trends. He has also previously held the titles of Director (Interim) of the Lawrence National Centre for Policy and Management and Chief Economist for the Mowat Centre at the University of Toronto. He has worked with politicians and policy makers of all political stripes in several countries to craft more effective public policy. From 2013 to 2015, he served as an economic advisor to Liberal leader Justin Trudeau. He also holds a Ph.D. in Management Science from Ivey Business School and an M.A. in Economics from the University of Rochester.

Most recently, he presented as a speaker of the University and City of Windsor’s Envision a Post-Covid Future Community Speaker Series, with a segment entitled “Ontarians on the Move.” As we work to support newcomers to the region, we have invited Dr. Moffatt to speak to some migration trends and how our communities are being shaped by those now calling it home.
