WE LIP Success Story | March 2025
Throughout March 2025, the Windsor Essex Local Immigration Partnership (WE LIP) actively engaged in Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Decolonization (EDID) initiatives to deepen our understanding, strengthen community partnerships, and promote inclusivity in Windsor-Essex. By participating in various events and discussions, we reinforced our commitment to continuous learning and meaningful action toward fostering a more inclusive community.
Reconcili-Action Conference – Caldwell First Nation (March 1, 2025)
WE LIP had the privilege of attending Caldwell First Nation’s Reconcili-Action conference. The event provided an opportunity to engage in critical conversations surrounding Indigenous history, rights, and ongoing challenges. Key topics of discussion included:
- Treaties and land acknowledgments
- Doctrine of discovery and colonization
- Wampum and social injustice
- The importance of preserving Indigenous languages
- Social determinants of Indigenous health and systemic barriers
By attending this conference, WE LIP members deepened their understanding of Indigenous perspectives and strengthened relationships with community members dedicated to reconciliation and advocacy.
University of Windsor’s Celebration of Nations (March 13, 2025)
The Celebration of Nations at the University of Windsor highlighted the rich cultural diversity of the university campus and the broader Windsor-Essex community. This annual event showcased international talent, cuisine, and educational experiences aimed at promoting cultural appreciation. WE LIP participated in this event to celebrate multiculturalism and connect with students, faculty, and community members in fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.
EDID Week at the University of Windsor (March 17-21, 2025)
Key Highlights:
- March 20, 2025: WE LIP hosed a booth at the EDID Week Fair, where we shared valuable resources with international students and connected with individuals seeking support and information about newcomers services in Windsor-Essex.
- March 18, 2025: WE LIP members attended Dr. Riham Al-Saadi’s panel discussion, An Insight into Deconstructing Anti-Palestinian Racism as a Lived Experience. This interactive presentation explored Anti-Palestinian Racism (APR) and its impact within educational institutions. The presentation provided key insights into APR as a distinct form of racism and its relation to other concepts like Islamophobia and Anti-Arab Animus.
Moving Forward
March 2025 was meaningful month of learning and engagement for WE LIP. By participating in EDID initiatives, we reaffirmed our dedication to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in Windsor-Essex. These experiences have further equipped us to support newcomers and advocate for a more welcoming and just society.
We look forward to continuing these efforts and integrating the knowledge gained into our ongoing initiatives, ensuring that Windsor-Essex remains a community where all individuals feel valued, respected, and empowered.
