   Workforce WindsorEssex: Key Priorities and Strategies  

 
#1 To ensure the Windsor-Essex workforce meets the needs of our current and emerging local economy.
 
Strategy: 
  • Analyze indicators to identify sectors where job creation is taking place or predicted
  • Get specific – talk to employers about what opportunities are in these sectors and what skills are required to access these jobs
  • Communicate study results to our existing and future workforce

 

#2 Provide relevant and current labour market information.
 
Strategy:
 
Communicate information on the changing economy and workforce requirements to:
  • Business owners competing locally and globally to grow their business
  • Workers making continuous learning decisions
  • Displaced workers considering re-employment options
  • Young people making career decisions
  • Educators ensuring leading edge training and education
  • Counsellors providing meaningful advice

 

#3 Emphasize the importance of Attitude, Skills and Knowledge (ASK) in the workplace. 
 
Strategy:
  • Assist employers to establish workplaces that promote, recognize and reward teamwork, adaptability and creative problem-solving

 

#4 Support entrepreneurship, R & D and the retention and growth of small and medium-sized business in Windsor Essex.
 

Strategy:
  • Promote and nurture entrepreneurs in the community
  • Facilitate collaboration that encourages commercialization of innovation in Windsor-Essex
  • Support small business retention and growth

 

#5 Integrate immigrants and newcomers into our labour force for leveraging their knowledge, skills and experience. 
 
Strategy:
  • Support the implementation of the Local Immigration Plan (LIP) for Windsor-Essex
  • Work with the LIP developers to identify the possible contribution of Workforce WindsorEssex

 

#6 Maximize the opportunity for youth to engage in the local workforce

Strategy:

  • To expose the range of economic and employment opportunities available to youth in Windsor-Essex

  • To provide local labour market information on emerging occupations to youth

  • To equip parents to better support their children in making informed and successful education and career choices

  • To enhance local labour market information content in the grade 10 Career Studies course
