What is the WEskills Database?

The WEskills Database is a valuable tool for the economic growth and prosperity of the Windsor-Essex region.

To support the transition of the local economy, the WEskills Database was developed to:

  • identify trends in the workforce and highlight opportunities for incoming industries

  • recognize and match the current skills of the available workforce with skills needed by employers

  • assist in the development of training plans that will bridge the skills gap, providing newly-trained individuals with opportunities to successfully secure employment in the region

This database is currently composed of over 2,700 career profiles of individuals who are primarily unemployed manufacturing workers.  This system allows for customized data entry and retrieval to showcase the available skilled workforce in Windsor-Essex.  The keyword search function provides accurate and timely extraction of skills, experience and the education of the database population.

WEskills Database is value added

When Workforce WindsorEssex is approached by employers looking to recruit qualified candidates with specific experience or skills, the database allows for quick retrieval of profiles that match the search criteria. Workforce WindsorEssex makes the connection between the source of the candidate profile and the employer.

The WEskills Database also provides a regional skills profile for the Windsor-Essex region. When WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation is attracting new employers they can use the regional skills profile to prove that Windsor-Essex has a skilled workforce that would meet and exceed their requirements.

Proven Success

The first phase of the WEskills Database project was initiated as a pilot project using resumes from local Labour Adjustment Committees. The goal set out during the trial project was to help key stakeholders such as the Windsor Economic Development Corporation to market the skill sets that are readily available in the Windsor-Essex region, as well as identify skill gaps for incoming industries.

Based on the success of the trial project, the project is being expanded to include clients of the City of Windsor’s Employment and Social Services Department.
