A monthly survey has been developed to capture local information about hiring trends.
Workforce WindsorEssex Monthly Local Labour Force Employer survey will capture information on what sectors are doing well and what occupations are in demand or on a downturn.
The five questions WFWE will ask local employers:
1. Identify your business sector
2. Did your staff level remain the same during the previous month?
3. Did you increase staff? If so, by how many, in what occupations?
4. Did you decrease staff? If so, by how many, in what occupations?
5. Indicate your place of business and company name (optional)
Names of businesses participating in the survey will be kept confidential and individual responses will not be shared.
Based on survey responses, a Labour Market Facts sheet has been developed to help human resource professionals and anyone in business looking to recruit or retain talent.
Preview of the results from October's Labour Market Facts report
Members from the Human Resources Professionals Association of Windsor were first to participate in defining their employment trends for October.
“At Human Resources Professionals Association of Windsor, we understand the value of keeping a close eye on hiring and layoff trends within the region as a tool for business planning. These survey results will keep us in the know with immediate trends," said Mila Lucio, president of HRPAW.
61.5 per cent of employers who completed this survey were from the manufacturing sector. 23.1 per cent of respondents were from retail services, education and representatives from the professional, scientific or technical service sector, and 15.4 per cent were from other services not including public administration.
30.8 per cent indicated their employment remained the same, while 69.2 per cent either increased or decreased their staff. A sample of the types of jobs gained include assembly operators, electricians, toolmakers, engineers, general labourers, welders and production associates. HRPAW respondents listed general labourers, supervisors, and DZ drivers as the type of jobs lost last month.
The next survey covering the month of November will be available starting Dec. 1 and closing Dec. 3.
